Galina Yakovenko

 

Galina Yakovenko is a Russian-American teacher and artist living in Oakland, California. After moving from Russia with her family in 1991, she grew up mostly in Maryland. In 2004, she moved to Oakland to pursue a BFA at California College of the Arts. At CCA, she majored in Textiles, but continued to work in a variety of materials. After graduating in May 2008, Galina worked for two years as a teaching artist in Oakland through arts ed. organization Opera Piccola. Galina taught studio art and art integration lessons connected to academic subjects to students K-12.


In 2011, Galina received her multiple subject teaching credential from Mills College. Galina has taught in Oakland USD, Mount Diablo USD, and Martinez USD. In the fall of 2013, she will begin a 5th grade teaching and math specialist position at Oakland Hebrew Day School.
